How can we conserve & use water resources better?

I'm from Australia & we get charged a hell of a lot for water, cos we don't have any...............we all try to conserve because of it, so I would like to see some pretty clever answers to this. Prensently I live in Connecticut & it always seems to be either snowing or raining so I don't see a problem here!!! But to find a way to transport all this water economically could be an answer.
