Opposition players calling for a hand p to trick the one who's in possession???

I have noticed on many occasions where a player under pressure handpes to the wrong team and am guessing that this could be a widespread practice out there in AFL land like they call "Over here John" when they aren't "John's" team mate at all. Do others thinks this is happening and is it a form of cheating?
