Can I put a Can on my 1996 polaris indy 500?

it's been my experience that using these devices only makes your sled louder to the point of being illegal for trial use and does very little to increase performance since it decreases back pressure. the stock indy 500 was plenty fast and did'nt need any extra's. On mine i was more concearned with handling and stopping
