Can I drive my 98 plymouth neon without power steering belt?

I was wandering if this was bad for the rack and pinion... I am leaving it full of steering fluid so it does not lock up.. but that only makes it harder to turn. I am a smaller guy and I can handle the car just fine, but will this tear something up? should I just drain the fluid and add globs of greese to the gears? Thanks to anyone who can help
